Our design process
The design process we use has been refined over many projects. Whether you have already got a clear direction, or are open to all options, this process will ensure we explore the opportunities your garden presents and that we produce a plan that meets your needs and expectations.
Initial consultation
This meeting is about getting to know the landscape and the client. We will be looking to form an initial response to the garden and to create a list of objectives for the project. We will discuss how you want to use the garden, and your wish list should you have one, whilst also proposing new ideas for consideration. Following this meeting, we will confirm the costs and create a brief which will act as the framework for the design going forward.
Site analysis
To be able to properly investigate the design it is crucial to have an accurate site survey and analysis. On smaller gardens, this can sometimes be done in-house but in general, it is beneficial to have a professional topographical survey done. This ensures all drawings are produced to scale and can be used to accurately price the construction of the garden. Importantly it allows for detailed design of level changes which often create great opportunities in a garden design but can also be expensive.
Concept plan
The first stage will involve the creation of images that describe our response to the brief. It will reflect the style and feel of the new garden without giving details on specific planting or materials. The main part of the proposal will take the form of a 3d computer model built to scale which will give a real sense of how the new garden spaces will feel. You will also get suggested planting styles and materials palettes. These documents will give you sufficient information to understand the garden allowing you to properly consider and evaluate the proposal.
Detailed plan
After discussing the concept design, our focus shifts towards finalizing the details. This involves addressing any remaining design concerns or alterations, specifying the exact materials and plants to be used. We produce construction drawings, planting plans, and thorough specifications to enable contractors to provide quotes for the project.
Construction
We have a passion for creating beautiful gardens in Cornwall. For most of our projects, we handle the construction ourselves with the help of trusted contractors and tradesmen. However, for larger projects, we produce a tender package that we send to 3-4 contractors for pricing. We'll assist you in choosing the right contractor and oversee the implementation of the project to ensure that your garden turns out as planned.
The first two years are critical for a new garden, as the young plants need to establish themselves. We will be there to support you and take care of your garden during this time to help the design come to life exactly as intended.
