School courtyard
This project was for a Cornish school that wished to create an aspirational courtyard space for their students.
This space gets used during lunch breaks, for educational purposes and for awards ceremonies and is much loved by the staff and children at the school.
The central area is constructed with Millboard and has seating for 60. The planting is designed to be really rugged to survive school life with many early spring flowering plants with long seasons of interest to work with the school term times. There were 2 new large clear stem Magnolia ‘Starwars’ trees as well and 4 small shrub M. ‘Stellata’. As well as this we included Osmanthus × burkwoodii structure. The Perennials include Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’, Geranium ‘Rozanne’, Echinacea ‘White Swan’ and Salvia ‘Cherry Lips’.

“Alex was engaged as a consultant to look at an unused space at the Academy, with a view to turning it into a space for students to use. His initial consultation was of a very high, professional standard, and we engaged him to assist with the design and build. On completion Alex took over the planting scheme, and designed and planted the soft landscaping. We have since engaged him on maintenance of the garden, and he has kept it looking at its best. I would recommend Alex for all aspects of Garden design and build, plus maintenance. He was professional at all times, and has continued with his interest in how the garden has matured. All students and staff are now enjoying the space at its best.”
